When it comes to snorkel masks, they are of different quality but we would never ever suggest someone to buy a cheap one because it will be made of cheap materials which will make the mask useless. No matter what kind of snorkel mask you have, you need to maintain it so that you can use it for as long as possible. The need for maintenance is there because good snorkel masks do not come cheap and you would not want it to deteriorate and waste your money just because you could not take care of it.
Storage and carrying it are important points in maintaining the mask but we think that a major way of maintaining it properly is if you clean it right so we would be talking about that so if you want to know about care and maintenance of the snorkeling mask then read about it further on in the article.
Cleaning Before Snorkeling
We all know that it is necessary to clean a snorkeling mask right after you have bought it to clean away the thin film of oil on the lens but did you know that you should clean the snorkeling mask each time before you go in the water? There are a couple of things that you can use like your own saliva, defogging agent of the commercial sort, warm soapy water, baby shampoo, toothpaste, glycerin soaps, potatoes and even with a dish washing detergent. While we are on the subject of cleaning, remember to clean your snorkeling mouthpiece every time you wash your mask.
If you have mold on your mask then soak your mask in warm water with soap added in and bleach too and then you would need to scrub away the mold.
